The Plaza Garibaldi is situated in the part central north of Mexico City, on of the Central Axis Lazarus Purple and the streets of Allende, Hunter and Equator in the Cologne Warlike; abuts with the neighborhood of Tepito.
It is famous for the groups of mariachi musicians that there they gather, dresses with their typical attire and equipped with their musical instruments. For many years has been the place of election to obtain a mariachi musician who sing or accompany a serenade, sound and he sing in a festival of bobbysoxer, or in some birthday, Mexican nights and other feasts.
Toward 1923 in the old plaza of Garibaldi, that was surrounded by neighborhoods there were small commerce, a market, an expense of pulque and a called tavern the "Tenampa" property of Juan Hernández Ibarra, native merchant of the town of Cocula, Plastered. In the, (until today famous "Tenampa") the assembly was presented for the first time "Mariachi Coculense" directed by Conception Andrade. From there the Plaza of Garibaldi was bringing to light as an animated place to be going to listen especially mariachi, folk assemblies and for taste of the typical gastronomy of Straw hat and of the Valley of Mexico. The name of the plaza during the colonial epoch was small square of Garden, and later The thrift Shop, upon being headquarters of an open-air market where marketed objects used and inexpensively, conserved that name until 1821, year in which the consummation of the Independence of Mexico was celebrated and changed its name to Plaza Garibaldi in allusion to the grandson of Giuseppe Garibaldi, José Garibaldi, who to fight in 1911 in the Of Francisco I. La Plaza Garibaldi está situada en la parte centro norte de la ciudad de México, sobre del Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas y las calles de Allende, Montero y Ecuador en la Colonia Guerrero; colinda con el barrio de Tepito.
Es famosa por los grupos de mariachis que ahí se reúnen, vestidos con su atuendo típico y equipados con sus instrumentos musicales. Por muchos años ha sido el lugar de elección para conseguir a un mariachi quien cante o acompañe una serenata, toque y cante en una fiesta de quinceañera, o en algunos cumpleaños, noches mexicanas y otros festejos.
Hacia 1923 en la vieja plaza de Garibaldi, que estaba rodeada de vecindades habían pequeños comercios, un mercado, un expendio de pulque y una cantina llamada el "Tenampa" propiedad de Juan Hernández Ibarra, comerciante originario del pueblo de Cocula, Jalisco. En el, (hasta hoy famoso "Tenampa") se presentó por primera vez el conjunto "Mariachi Coculense" dirigido por Concepción Andrade. A partir de ahí la Plaza de Garibaldi fue dándose a conocer como un animado lugar para ir a escuchar conjuntos folclóricos, especialmente mariachis y para degustar de la gastronomía típica de Jalisco y del Valle de México.
El nombre de la plaza durante la época colonial fue Plazuela de Jardín, y más tarde El Baratillo, al ser sede de un tianguis donde se comercializaban objetos usados y baratos, conservó ese nombre hasta 1821, año en que se celebró la consumación de la Independencia de México y cambió su nombre a Plaza Garibaldi en alusión al nieto de Giuseppe Garibaldi, José Garibaldi, quien combatiera en 1911 en las filas de Francisco I. Madero en Chihuahua.
El 22 de noviembre en la plaza se celebra a Cecilia de Roma patrona de los músicos
La plaza está "hermanada" con la Plaça Reial de la ciudad de Barcelona, Cataluña, España
